Saleen is once again accepting reservations for the S1 sports car, but the company still has not provided customers with a firm delivery date. The S1 Street is listed at $160,000 before delivery and other fees, while the reservation page requests a refundable $1,000 deposit.

The current price represents a $60,000 increase over the model’s original $100,000 asking price. Saleen has not listed a delivery charge on the S1 model page, and its reservation materials do not indicate when production cars could reach customers.

A reservation program with a long history

Saleen’s latest reservation push follows an earlier offer announced in December 2017. At that time, the company also said a $1,000 deposit would secure an S1 order, with production expected to begin in Corona, California. The announcement outlined a planned annual production volume of 1,500 cars.

The S1 was initially expected to launch in summer 2018. Nearly nine years after the car was unveiled, Saleen is again specifying the amount required to reserve one without providing a confirmed handover date.

The situation has drawn comparisons with Tesla’s second-generation Roadster. Tesla unveiled that model in November 2017, took $50,000 reservations, and originally targeted production in 2020. Reservations for the Roadster have also recently reopened, although buyers remain without their cars. Saleen’s deposit is considerably lower, but both projects have accepted reservations while leaving delivery timing unresolved.

Claimed S1 performance figures

Saleen currently lists the street version with 450 horsepower, 425 pound-feet of torque, a claimed 0-to-60-mph time of 3.2 seconds, and a top speed of 171 mph.

The track-only S1 Race carries a $250,000 starting price, also excluding delivery and other fees. Its refundable reservation deposit is $2,000. Saleen claims a 2.9-second 0-to-60-mph time and a 180-mph top speed for that version.

Those specifications have remained part of the S1’s presentation as the project has continued. However, the current model and reservation pages do not pair them with a production or customer-delivery schedule.

Racing activity provided some progress

The S1 project has had activity beyond promotional appearances. Cup versions competed in Saleen’s racing series in 2019, giving the car a documented presence in competition.

That racing history does not establish when the street-legal S1 will be delivered to reservation holders. For now, Saleen has reopened the order process and published updated pricing, while the delivery date remains listed as undetermined.
