JAS Motorsport has revealed the finished Tensei, a heavily reworked version of the first-generation Honda NSX developed with design input from Pininfarina. Limited to 35 examples, the carbon-bodied restomod is priced at €880,000, or about $985,000, before the cost of a donor car.
Modernized NSX design
The Tensei remains clearly recognizable as an original NSX, retaining signature features such as the pop-up headlights and integrated rear spoiler hoop. JAS has widened the track, giving the car a fuller stance beneath its bodywork, while LED lighting brings a contemporary appearance to both the front and rear.
Earlier previews of the project used renderings, but the latest images show the completed vehicle. Its redesigned body panels are made entirely from carbon fiber, helping produce a dry weight of 2,755 pounds, or 1,250 kilograms.
Judd-developed 3.4-liter V6
JAS also commissioned Judd to modify the NSX’s original 3.0-liter V6. The engine has been enlarged to 3.4 liters and produces 414 horsepower, compared with 276 hp for the donor engine. The rev limit has also increased from 8,000 rpm to 8,500 rpm.
Power is sent through an exclusively available six-speed manual transmission equipped with a titanium shifter. JAS describes the engine note as resembling that of 1990s Grand Prix engines.
Original cabin layout with digital instruments
The interior keeps the basic architecture of the original NSX while adding a digital gauge cluster. That approach combines the first-generation car’s cabin design with a more modern instrument display.
Production is set at just 35 cars. At nearly $1 million before a donor vehicle is included, the Tensei occupies a very different price bracket from the original NSX, which was priced alongside the Porsche 911 when new.
