Opel has released additional teasers and details of its Sports Tourer eXperimental (STX) Concept ahead of its premiere at the Paris Motor Show on October 12. The futuristic wagon is expected to offer an early look at the brand’s future design direction and may preview the next-generation Astra.

Rather than following a conventional family-wagon formula, the STX Concept combines a low, sporty stance with sharply sculpted bodywork and experimental aerodynamic features. Opel has not yet disclosed the vehicle’s powertrain, although the source material suggests it could use either fully electric or hybrid technology.

Sportier exterior design

The concept’s front end develops Opel’s Vizor design language. Its grille is finished in the body color and incorporates an LED pattern along with an illuminated Opel Blitz badge. Vertical lighting elements create the brand’s Opel Compass graphic, while the lower bumper includes horizontal cooling openings.

In profile, the most prominent feature is the broad rear fender treatment. The widened haunches give the wagon a more performance-oriented appearance than a typical family-focused estate, reinforcing the concept’s sporty theme.

A further image released by sister brand Vauxhall shows the STX from above. It highlights two hood vents that form a V-shaped design and continue toward the front spoiler. The arrangement is conceptually similar to the hood treatment used on the fully electric Dodge Charger Daytona.

The windshield also appears to extend onto the hood. “TECHHUE” lettering at the base of the glass hints at an unspecified technology, though Opel and Stellantis have not explained what the marking represents.

Aerodynamics remain a central focus

Opel says aerodynamic efficiency was an important consideration during development. The concept uses three-section alloy wheels intended to reduce consumption while also supporting directional stability and driving enjoyment at high speeds on the German Autobahn.

The STX Concept additionally features an active aerodynamic system. Moving elements at the rear are designed to adjust to driving conditions, with the stated goals of managing airflow, lowering drag and improving stability.

Possible Astra connection

Opel has not openly identified the STX as an Astra preview. However, the sporty wagon is expected to evolve into the next-generation compact model, which is rumored to move away from the traditional hatchback body style.

The Astra and smaller Corsa have both been confirmed for renewal before 2030. According to the source material, the two models will use Stellantis’ multi-energy STLA One architecture, with an electric-first strategy. The Astra could eventually adopt range-extender technology from Leapmotor, although that possibility has not been confirmed.

A future Opel estate could face competition from the next-generation Skoda Octavia. Skoda’s Vision O concept has previewed that model, which is expected to arrive in 2028 as a wagon with electric and range-extender powertrain options.
