Jeep is exploring a future model inspired by the original Willys, although the brand has not confirmed a production launch. The project was discussed during a press briefing in Paris and could eventually bring a compact, electrified off-road vehicle to Europe.
Willys project remains at an early stage
Xavier Peugeot, Head of Jeep Brand Enlarged Europe, identified the Willys as an important subject for the brand and one of several ideas being considered for future products. He stressed that Jeep was not confirming a concrete launch, while suggesting the project could follow the launches already included in the company’s “Road to 2030” roadmap.
Jeep’s presentation included an image of a Willys Jeep beside a wooden crate marked “Not Fragile.” The image appears to explain the shipping-container teaser the brand shared the previous week.
According to Italian publication Quattroruote, Jeep is evaluating concepts that combine a compact footprint, off-road ability, electrification and distinctive styling. That combination could place a Willys-inspired model in a smaller segment, potentially below the Avenger and the next-generation Renegade.
The project is intended to reflect Jeep’s core values as the brand competes with Chinese models in Europe. Peugeot described the Willys as “a key card to play,” but indicated that the idea remains in its early development phase. A European launch before 2030 is not expected based on the available information.
Jeep’s European lineup expansion
Before any Willys-inspired model reaches production, Jeep is preparing several additions to its European range. The brand plans to grow from two models to six by 2030, with the facelifted Avenger and new Compass set to be joined by a next-generation Renegade, the fully electric Recon, an unnamed B-segment SUV and a flagship D-segment SUV developed with Dongfeng.
Peugeot also confirmed that a new Renegade is coming, citing the sales performance of the original as a reason for continuing the nameplate. The Recon is expected to arrive in Europe in 2027 as a fully electric replacement for the five-door Wrangler.
For now, Jeep has provided no production confirmation or detailed specifications for the potential Willys-inspired vehicle. The project remains one of several concepts being considered for the brand’s longer-term European strategy.
