Alfa Romeo’s Cuorerosso concept may evoke visions of a new Giulia sedan, but the striking design study is not intended to preview that car. Instead, its styling is expected to influence several future models, beginning with a new SUV scheduled to arrive in early 2028.

Revealed as a highlight of the 2026 Paris Motor Show, the Cuorerosso combines low-slung proportions with design references to Alfa Romeo’s history. The concept was created as a feasible vehicle and a broader design statement, rather than as a direct production preview.

A new C-SUV will arrive first

Alfa Romeo CEO Santo Ficili said the first production model to adopt the Cuorerosso’s design language will occupy the top of the C-SUV class while also targeting the entry-level D-SUV segment. The unnamed model is expected to replace the Tonale, which is anticipated to leave production by the end of 2027.

The SUV could also grow closer in size to the current Stelvio. Stellantis has confirmed that it will use the STLA Medium architecture instead of STLA One. Its powertrain range will include “multi-energy” options, pointing to both hybrid and fully electric configurations, although specific technical details have not been announced.

Next compact model will not be a traditional hatchback

Ficili also discussed a future compact model referred to internally as the Giulietta. The name identifies the vehicle’s intended market position and is not necessarily its final production name. It would follow the Giulietta hatchback that ended production in 2020.

Although the model will use Cuorerosso-inspired styling, Alfa Romeo says it will not be an SUV. Battery placement beneath the floor is expected to create additional ground clearance, headroom, and interior space without turning the vehicle into a crossover. Its launch timing remains undecided, but it is expected to follow the 2028 C-SUV.

The Junior will continue to serve as Alfa Romeo’s entry-level model. The brand is satisfied with its sales performance and intends to keep the small SUV current through special editions and model-year updates.

Limited-production models remain in development

Alfa Romeo is also working on another vehicle under its BottegaFuoriserie program, following the 33 Stradale. Recent reports have suggested that the limited-production model could draw inspiration from a historic Alfa Romeo and potentially offer a manual transmission, though those details remain unconfirmed.

A separate, entirely new Maserati project is also in development, highlighting the continued connection between the two Italian brands on exclusive, low-volume vehicles.

Giulia and Stelvio continue through 2027

The current Giulia and Stelvio will remain in production until the end of 2027. Ficili said Alfa Romeo abandoned an earlier project centered exclusively on a fully electric architecture and will evaluate the future of those segments afterward.

Alfa Romeo is also keeping the Giorgio platform under consideration. The architecture continues to underpin Maserati models, including the Grecale and the Giorgio Sport evolution used by the GranTurismo and GranCabrio. The Cuorerosso concept combines a rear-wheel-drive platform with a hybrid version of Alfa Romeo’s twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6, but the source does not confirm that configuration for a future production Giulia or Stelvio.
