Hyundai has introduced the Elantra N Monochrome, a special edition that tones down the performance sedan’s visual treatment while retaining the standard model’s engine, transmission choices and chassis setup. The edition is initially set for Korea, Canada and Australia, with availability in other markets expected to be detailed separately.
The Monochrome arrives as the Elantra N remains based on the previous-generation sedan, despite Hyundai having already introduced a newer Elantra, known as the Avante in Korea. A new-generation Elantra N is expected to arrive in 2027, giving the Monochrome the character of a potential send-off for the current performance model.
Reduced exterior contrast
The most visible change is the removal of the red accents normally associated with the Elantra N’s aerodynamic bodywork. Those elements are replaced with body-colored trim, while additional black detailing is added between the openings in the front bumper.
The edition also receives black forged alloy wheels and matching brake calipers. Hyundai is offering the model in only two exterior colors: Abyss Black Pearl and Performance Blue. Together, the limited palette and revised trim are intended to make the sedan’s shape and surface treatment more prominent than its color contrast.
The standard Basic Trim keeps the more restrained approach. A higher-level Upper Trim adds a redesigned carbon-fiber rear wing and matching mirror caps, bringing more visual emphasis back to the car’s performance identity. The wing remains considerably less pronounced than the one fitted to the Elantra N TCR.
Alcantara-focused interior
Inside, the Monochrome uses Alcantara extensively across the seats, door panels, steering wheel and center armrest. Light blue contrast stitching is applied throughout the cabin, while the steering wheel uses black buttons to complement the darker interior treatment.
Hyundai describes the design as an effort to shift attention from bright exterior accents toward the sedan’s form, proportions, textures and performance-oriented details. The company also said the edition was developed in response to customer interest in a high-performance model with a more restrained appearance.
Standard Elantra N powertrain
The Monochrome does not receive mechanical or chassis upgrades. It uses the Elantra N’s turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which produces up to 286 horsepower and 289 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels through either a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic.
The edition also arrives as Hyundai considers expanding its N-branded range. Earlier this year, Hyundai President and CEO Jose Munoz announced plans for a new mid-tier series positioned between the full N and N Line families. Although the Elantra N Monochrome remains a full N model, its less aggressive visual treatment could offer an indication of the direction being considered for the proposed N Lite family.
Hyundai has not yet provided market-specific sales details for the Monochrome beyond its initial launch regions. Additional availability information is expected to be announced separately.
