BMW-owned Alpina is developing a new luxury sedan based on the updated 7-Series, and fresh spy images provide an early look at the model’s styling changes. The prototype was photographed near BMW’s test center at the Nürburgring.

Distinctive front-end details

The most noticeable feature is the prototype’s amber LED daytime running lights. It remains unclear whether they will reach production, but the lighting could become a recognizable design element for future Alpina models. The Vision Alpina concept, shown in May, also used amber daytime running lights.

The front grille differs from that of the standard 7-Series as well. The prototype appears to use three horizontal grille slats, compared with seven on the regular model. The lower bumper and lower air intake also have different designs, further separating the car from BMW’s standard luxury sedan.

Black wheels with silver detailing give the prototype a distinctive appearance, although they may not be fitted to the production vehicle. Traditional Alpina wheels with closely spaced spokes are considered more likely for the finished car.

Alpina-specific rear styling and powertrain

Changes at the rear appear more restrained. The prototype features Alpina’s familiar oval tailpipes, while a revised rear bumper could also be included on the production model.

The previous Alpina B7, produced from 2016 through 2022, used a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 based on the engine from the BMW 750Li. Alpina upgraded that powertrain to produce 600 horsepower.

The new sedan is expected to be based on the recently unveiled BMW M760 xDrive, which uses the latest version of the twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8. In U.S. specification, that model produces around 570 horsepower and comes standard with all-wheel drive.

The Alpina version will likely retain the same basic engine while receiving revisions intended to increase horsepower and torque. However, the model’s changes are expected to extend beyond the powertrain. Alpina has traditionally combined sporty handling with a strong focus on comfort and refinement, and the new 7-Series-based car is expected to follow that approach.

Launch timing remains unconfirmed

BMW has not confirmed when the new Alpina 7-Series will be launched, although it is expected to be unveiled next year. The sedan will be the first model developed after BMW took full ownership of Alpina.

BMW has also confirmed that Alpina will develop a version of the next-generation X7. That model is tipped to arrive in 2027, but further details have not been provided.
