Two 25-year-old drivers were arrested after allegedly racing a Porsche 911 and an Audi R8 through University Place, Washington, with one vehicle reaching 107 mph in a 35-mph zone, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies did not pursue the cars as they were being driven at extreme speeds. Instead, officers later located both vehicles and arrested the drivers. The decision avoided adding a high-speed police chase to an already dangerous situation involving two performance cars.

Dashcam footage documented the alleged race

Investigators obtained warrants for footage recorded inside the Porsche. The video reportedly includes timestamps, GPS-based speed information, and multiple views of the driving. That evidence showed both cars traveling at triple-digit speeds, consistent with the sheriff’s account of the incident.

The footage also provided more than a brief roadside observation of the vehicles. It documented the alleged race and recorded the Porsche’s speed data, giving investigators information to use after the cars had been located.

Both vehicles received 72-hour holds

The drivers were arrested on allegations of reckless driving and street racing. Their Porsche and Audi were impounded under 72-hour holds.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office had not announced the official charges for either driver at the time of the report. Potential jail time, fines, court costs, towing expenses, storage fees, and insurance consequences could extend beyond the initial three-day vehicle holds, although the final outcome remains undetermined.

The case illustrates how authorities secured both vehicles and arrested both drivers without initiating a pursuit at speeds that could have placed other motorists, pedestrians, and officers at additional risk. Whether the impounds and any eventual penalties will deter similar driving remains unresolved.
