Two 25-year-old drivers allegedly used a Porsche 911 and an Audi R8 for a street race in University Place, Washington, with dashcam data showing one vehicle reaching 107 mph in a 35-mph zone, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
Rather than pursue the cars at high speed, deputies later located both vehicles and arrested the drivers. The decision avoided adding a dangerous police chase to an already hazardous incident involving two high-performance sports cars.
Dashcam footage documented the alleged race
Investigators obtained warrants for footage recorded inside the Porsche. The camera captured the time, GPS-indicated speed, and multiple views of the vehicles as they traveled at triple-digit speeds, providing more than an observation from officers who saw the cars pass by.
The footage also supported the decision to avoid an immediate pursuit. Chasing the Porsche and Audi at those speeds could have increased the danger to other motorists, pedestrians, and law enforcement officers.
Both vehicles were impounded
The two men were arrested on allegations of reckless driving and street racing. Their vehicles were impounded under 72-hour holds, although the source does not identify any official charges beyond the allegations at the time of reporting.
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office had not announced whether the drivers would face additional consequences such as jail time or fines. Any eventual penalties could extend beyond the temporary impound period through towing and storage costs, along with potential court and insurance expenses.
The case illustrates how investigators used recorded vehicle data and later arrests instead of initiating a high-speed pursuit. Whether the temporary vehicle holds and possible further penalties will deter similar driving remains unresolved.
