Two 25-year-old drivers were arrested after allegedly racing a Porsche 911 and an Audi R8 through University Place, Washington, with one vehicle reaching 107 mph in a 35-mph zone, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies did not pursue the cars at high speed. Instead, officers later located both vehicles and arrested the drivers on allegations of reckless driving and street racing. The Porsche and Audi were impounded under 72-hour holds.
Dashcam footage documented the alleged race
Investigators obtained a warrant for dashcam footage from inside the Porsche. The recording includes timestamps, GPS-based speed information and multiple views of the road during the alleged race.
According to the footage data, both vehicles traveled at triple-digit speeds. The reported 107-mph reading occurred in an area with a posted 35-mph limit.
By avoiding a pursuit, deputies recovered both vehicles and identified the drivers without following the cars as they were allegedly being driven at dangerous speeds. The decision also avoided adding a high-speed police chase to an already hazardous incident.
Official charges have not been announced
The sheriff’s office has not yet announced the official charges or any potential jail time and fines for the two men. Those consequences remain separate from the vehicle impoundments, which could also involve towing and storage fees.
Both drivers remain connected to allegations of reckless driving and street racing, while the dashcam evidence provides documentation of the reported speed and conduct.
