Alpine has previewed the PS1, a new concept car scheduled to debut at the Paris Motor Show. The model is expected to represent the first project under the brand’s “special projects” product pillar and could provide an early look at a future production vehicle.
The teaser focuses on the PS1’s unusual headlight arrangement. When switched off, the lamps sit beneath covers that blend into the concept’s flat hood. The covers recess into the bodywork to expose narrow LED elements featuring French flag colors.
A retro-inspired lighting design
Unlike traditional pop-up headlights, the PS1’s lights move downward into the body rather than rising above the hood. The approach recalls Eccentrica’s modernized Lamborghini Diablo design while potentially meeting pedestrian-safety requirements that make conventional pop-up headlights unsuitable for modern production cars.
Alpine has not shown the full vehicle, so the PS1’s body style remains unclear. However, the dark teaser reveals part of its broad fenders and camera-based exterior mirrors. Those details suggest a low, aerodynamic shape, although the available image does not confirm the concept’s final proportions or configuration.
Possible connection to a future electric grand tourer
The rectangular headlight clusters and surrounding bodywork also echo the Alpine A310, which was produced from 1971 to 1984. Alpine is reportedly developing a new generation of that grand tourer with a 2+2 cabin and an all-electric powertrain.
That connection has led to speculation that the PS1 could preview a zero-emission sports car positioned against the Porsche 911. The concept may share Alpine’s Performance Platform with the next-generation A110, but the source material does not confirm its production status, specifications, or powertrain details beyond that possible relationship.
PS1 debut at the Paris Motor Show
The PS1 name stands for “Project Special 1,” rather than referring to the PlayStation console. Within Alpine’s future product strategy, the special-projects group is positioned above the “Extraordinary Everyday” range, which includes the A290 hot hatchback and A390 sport fastback, as well as the “Icons” pillar represented by the A110.
Alpine has said the teaser will be the only preview before the concept’s reveal on the Paris Motor Show press day, October 12. The PS1 will appear alongside the A110 Sculpture. Alpine will also display several A290 and A390 examples featuring new colors, trims, and finishes created through the Atelier Alpine personalization program.
