A one-off Ruf known as Project Dragon is scheduled to go to auction in late November with an estimated value of $6 million to $8 million, potentially making it the most expensive Ruf ever sold.
The modern interpretation of the CTR2 Sport is based on the final body-in-white retained from the original CTR2 era. Ruf built the CTR2 Sport in limited numbers between 1995 and 1997, while the Project Dragon’s design was created by Tony Hatter, who also designed the original 993 Porsche 911.
CTR2 Sport-inspired design
Project Dragon uses the distinctive proportions and forms associated with the CTR2 Sport, including reshaped front and rear quarter panels, revised rocker panels and a refined front bumper. Its Dragon Fire Orange paint gives the car a particularly vivid appearance.
Several details distinguish the one-off from the earlier cars. Subtle side air intakes are integrated into the bodywork, while the rear features a large spoiler incorporated into the decklid. A centrally positioned tailpipe is visible below, and the exterior is completed by five-spoke wheels painted in the same Dragon Fire Orange shade.
Gooding Christie’s is handling the sale. The car was delivered in March 2024 and has covered just 759 miles, or 1,221 kilometers. The reason for its early resale has not been disclosed.
Custom air-cooled flat-six
The Project Dragon’s mechanical specification is also distinct from the original CTR2 Sport. It is powered by a custom twin-turbocharged, air-cooled 3.6-liter flat-six producing 621 horsepower. That output is approximately 40 hp higher than the figure cited for the original CTR2 Sport.
The car also uses modern Bilstein PSS10 suspension and carbon-ceramic brakes. Although its projected value may make track use unlikely for the next owner, the source notes that the hardware gives the car the capability to be driven hard.
Orange-accented interior
The cabin continues the exterior theme with bucket seats featuring bright orange backs and upholstery combining black leather and fabric with orange accents. Bespoke gauges are finished in Dragon Fire Orange to match the body.
With its limited-production inspiration, unique body and interior details, custom engine and low mileage, Project Dragon is being offered as a highly exclusive Ruf. Its auction result will determine whether it sets a new high-water mark for the marque.
