Chevrolet has issued a service bulletin covering a possible oil leak on 2027 Corvette models equipped with the new 6.7-liter LS6 V8. The issue affects the area between the oil cooler adapter and the oil pan, but it has not resulted in a safety recall.
The bulletin, sent to Chevrolet dealerships in North America last month, says a small amount of engine oil may escape from the connection. Technicians could see bubbling around the affected area while the engine is running, although the source does not describe a significant flow of oil.
Oil cooler adapter seals to be replaced
The repair involves replacing two seals in the oil cooler adapter. The oil cooler and adapter do not need to be separated for the procedure, according to the service instructions.
Technicians are also instructed to tighten the adapter bolts evenly and in a specified sequence. Each bolt must first be tightened to 44 pound-inches, or 5 Nm, before a final pass brings the fasteners to 11 pound-feet, or 15 Nm. The procedure is intended to prevent leaks after the repair.
2027 Corvette production totals
Production of the 2027 Corvette began earlier this year. As of the end of September, the Bowling Green assembly facility had reportedly built 3,691 Stingrays using the 6.7-liter V8, along with 3,204 Grand Sports and 285 Grand Sport X models.
The reported production figures also include 1,293 Z06s, 380 ZR1s, and 269 ZR1X models for the 2027 model year. The service bulletin specifically concerns the new V8 applications in the Stingray, Grand Sport, and Grand Sport X.
In those models, the LS6 produces 535 horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque. The previous 6.2-liter V8 produced up to 495 horsepower with the optional performance exhaust and generated 465 pound-feet of torque.
