Legacy Overland has transformed a 1993 Range Rover Classic LWB into a carefully restored 4×4 known as “Nova.” Rather than replacing the aging SUV’s powertrain, the project keeps its original V8 while adding mechanical, exterior, interior, and technology upgrades.
The project comes from the same creators behind the Series II Discovery “Project Earnie.” Unlike Legacy Overland’s Range Rover build equipped with an LS3 V8, Nova retains the engine it was originally delivered with. That V8 produced approximately 200 horsepower when new, a figure the restoration presents as sufficient for everyday driving outside more demanding uses such as racing or towing.
Mechanical updates
The original engine has been inspected and serviced, with several wear-prone components replaced. The work includes a new radiator, expansion tank, hoses, sensors, and thermostat.
Nova also receives new coil springs and shocks at all four corners. The braking system has been updated with new discs and calipers, while the axles and differential have been serviced. These changes maintain the vehicle’s original mechanical character while addressing key areas needed for continued use.
Classic exterior design
The Range Rover was repainted in Midnight Atlantic Blue and fitted with matching 16-inch five-spoke wheels. Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires provide the contact with the road, while a custom bull bar and auxiliary driving lights reinforce the SUV’s rugged appearance.
Restored badges and new bumpers complete the exterior work. The boxy body, thin pillars, and upright proportions remain central to the design, preserving the visual identity of the original Range Rover Classic instead of giving it a more modern appearance.
Updated cabin
Inside, the cabin has been extensively re-trimmed in two-tone Butter Rum and Deep Ocean full-grain leather. The material covers the seats, dashboard, and door panels, while Deep Ocean Wilton wool carpeting, navy blue seat belts, and a light cream headliner provide contrasting details.
Modern equipment has been added without abandoning the classic cabin. The upgrades include a 400-watt amplifier, Kicker 4-inch speakers, a digital rearview mirror, and a pop-up infotainment display with Apple CarPlay.
Nova illustrates how a classic Range Rover can be updated for regular use without adopting a completely new powertrain. Its restoration combines renewed suspension, brakes, and supporting components with contemporary cabin technology, while leaving the original V8 and instantly recognizable body design in place.
