General Motors’ U.S. sales fell 5.5% in the third quarter, with steep declines across its electric vehicle lineup contributing to the company’s broader downturn. GM sold 670,974 vehicles from July through September, compared with 710,347 during the same period in 2025.

The company’s total sales for the first nine months of the year reached 2,012,299 vehicles, down 6.4% from the corresponding period a year earlier. The decline follows the end of the $7,500 federal electric vehicle tax credit in September, a change that has coincided with weaker EV sales in the United States.

Cadillac EV sales fall across the lineup

Cadillac’s electric models recorded declines across the board in the third quarter. Sales of the Escalade IQ and IQL fell 29.2% to 1,604 vehicles, while Lyriq deliveries dropped 50.2% to 3,617 units.

Sales of the Optiq declined 6.9% to 4,550 vehicles, and the Vistiq fell 34.1% to 2,587 units. Cadillac’s total third-quarter sales decreased 30% to 32,650 vehicles.

Chevrolet EV sales also decline

Chevrolet’s overall sales were down 4.6% in the third quarter, reaching 437,321 vehicles. Its electric models experienced some of the largest reductions in GM’s lineup.

Equinox EV sales fell 92.4%, from 25,085 vehicles in the third quarter of 2025 to 1,905 units last quarter. The model’s year-to-date sales declined 65.6% to 18,154 vehicles.

Blazer EV sales dropped 84.4% to 1,261 units. Chevrolet also sold 1,655 Silverado EV pickups during the quarter, down 58% from 3,940 a year earlier. Year-to-date Silverado EV sales totaled 5,327 vehicles, a 43.2% decline.

Sales of the BrightDrop 400 and 600 vans, which have been discontinued, fell 43.6% to 1,344 units.

GMC electric models post lower sales

GMC also reported substantial declines for its electric vehicles. Combined sales of the Hummer EV pickup and SUV decreased 72.9% to 1,423 vehicles in the third quarter.

Sierra EV sales fell 50.8%, from 3,374 units in the third quarter of 2025 to 1,661 vehicles last quarter. GMC’s total sales declined 4.7% to 157,103 vehicles.

Several gas-powered models gain ground

Some models outside GM’s electric lineup posted higher third-quarter sales. Buick Enclave sales increased 3.4%, while Encore GX sales rose 5.4% and Envista sales climbed 18.4%.

Cadillac CT5 sales were up 4.1%, Chevrolet Colorado sales increased 2.4%, and Corvette sales rose 28.5%. Chevrolet Trailblazer sales jumped 51.1%. At GMC, Acadia sales grew 7.7%, Canyon sales rose 17.9%, Sierra LD sales increased 2.9%, and Yukon sales were up 8%.
