The Honda Civic Type R enters the 2027 model year with revised suspension tuning, updated brake-pedal hardware, refreshed styling and additional standard equipment. The front-wheel-drive hot hatch retains its existing powertrain and output, while its European availability ends after 2026 because of tightening emissions regulations.
Revised chassis and controls
The 2027 Civic Type R receives a retuned damper setup for its firmest +R drive mode. The changes are intended to reduce bouncing and soften impacts on rougher roads away from the track.
Honda has also added a yoke spring to the brake pedal assembly. The component is designed to reduce play in the linkage and provide a more consistent pedal feel. The rev-matching software has been recalibrated as well, with the goal of improving response and making downshifts smoother.
These updates do not bring additional engine output. The Type R continues with a 2.0-liter K20C engine producing 315 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels through a limited-slip differential and a six-speed manual transmission.
Updated exterior and interior details
Visual changes at the front include a larger grille opening and a deeper front splitter. Honda says the revised splitter generates more downforce, although the source does not provide a new figure for that change.
Inside, three-stage heated sport seats become standard for the first time. The suede-effect upholstery uses a newly perforated design with black striping, while the climate-control knobs are finished in black. The shifter, door handles and center-console trim receive dark-gray finishes.
Ultrasuede is added to the upper door panels and the top of the gauge cluster. Honda says that material helps reduce glare and reflections in the windshield. The engine also gets a redesigned plastic cover intended to resemble the cam covers used on vintage Type R models.
More connectivity and safety equipment
The 2027 model adds Google built-in and Alexa built-in connectivity. Two USB-C ports are positioned on the center console above the wireless phone charger.
Honda has also improved the lane-keeping assistance system and added post-collision braking. The source does not provide further details about the changes to either system.
Higher pricing and continued U.S. availability
The 2027 Civic Type R is priced at $48,695 before a $1,295 destination charge, bringing the stated total to $49,990. That represents an increase from the 2026 model’s $48,690 price including destination.
The car continues with the same 315-horsepower output and six-speed manual transmission for 2027. While the model is being discontinued in Europe after 2026 because of emissions rules, it remains available in the United States.
