EVgo has announced plans for a next-generation fast charger capable of delivering up to 750 kilowatts, a power level that would significantly exceed the output of most current DC fast-charging stations in the United States.

The company expects the system to provide what it describes as the fastest charging experience in America. EVgo says compatible electric vehicles could recharge in approximately 10 minutes, although the actual time would depend on the vehicle and its charging capabilities.

Higher charging output

Most DC fast chargers currently offer between 150 and 250 kW, while 350-kW units are generally regarded as the most powerful chargers widely available in the U.S. EVgo’s proposed 750-kW system would therefore offer more than twice the output of those 350-kW chargers.

The charger is expected to be unveiled in 2027. EVgo has not provided further details about where the system will initially be deployed or which vehicles would be able to use its full output.

Features planned for the new charger

The system will use a NACS connector and include a touchless payment interface. EVgo also says the design will provide improved cable maneuverability, along with updated hardware and firmware intended to support reliability and simplify the charging process.

Another key feature will be dynamic power sharing. The technology is designed to adjust charging output in real time, supplying each vehicle with the power it requires throughout a charging session.

According to EVgo, this approach will account for differences in charging rates among vehicle models and changing power demands during a session. Drivers would not need to select a charging stall based on a specific power rating, since the system would automatically distribute the appropriate output to each vehicle.
