A Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport reported stolen in Waynesboro, Georgia, nearly six years ago has been recovered from the bottom of a river. The C7 was found during a routine dive and still wore the distinctive black-and-blue wrap that made it easy to identify.
The Corvette was reported stolen in an Instagram post in December 2020. Since then, it had apparently vanished without a trace, despite its unusual two-tone appearance and a sticker on the windshield.
Corvette found during routine dive
A diver with Rapid Compassion Collective discovered the car unexpectedly while exploring a Georgia river. The Corvette was retrieved from the muddy water covered in grime and silt, but its exterior remained recognizable.
Remarkably, the black-and-blue wrap appears to have survived the car’s time underwater. The windshield sticker visible when the Corvette was reported stolen was also still in place.
Extensive water damage
The car’s survival underwater was limited largely to its exterior appearance. Both headlights contain significant amounts of water, while the cabin was flooded. The interior had apparently become home to fish during the years the car spent submerged.
That exposure likely caused severe damage to the Corvette’s electronics and other onboard systems. Although the body panels appear to have held up relatively well, the car is not expected to return to the road.
It remains unclear how or when the Corvette entered the river. One possibility is that the thieves abandoned it there after driving it, but the circumstances have not been established. Its eventual fate also remains unknown.
