General Motors is recalling 29,347 Cadillac Optiq electric SUVs after identifying a problem with the vehicles’ power-window anti-pinch protection. On affected vehicles, the windows may fail to stop and reverse when an obstruction is detected during the final 0.5 inches (13 millimeters) of upward travel.
The issue occurs when owners use the express-up function from the Optiq’s key fob. That function closes the windows automatically, but the anti-pinch system may not respond correctly near the top of the window’s path. The defect creates a potential injury risk, particularly for children, and does not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 118.
Software calibration blamed for the problem
According to the recall documentation, the problem stems from an incorrect upper travel setting in the anti-pinch software. GM identified supplier Kwangjin America as responsible for setting that range incorrectly.
There have been no reports of injuries or fingers being caught as a result of the issue, based on the information provided in the recall notice.
Optiq fix requires a software update
The remedy does not require replacement hardware or dismantling the doors. Dealers will update the Body Control Module software on affected Optiqs. Owners who have enabled over-the-air updates may be able to complete the repair without visiting a dealership.
The recall applies to certain 2025 through 2027 Cadillac Optiq models. The source material does not specify the precise production range or the timeline for owner notifications.
Cadillac also enlarges infotainment controls
Separately, Cadillac is introducing updated infotainment software for the Optiq, Lyriq, Vistiq and CT5-V. The update increases the size of the screens’ virtual buttons following customer feedback that the existing touch targets could be difficult to hit, particularly while driving.
