Tesla has introduced several Model 3 updates for the Chinese market, including a larger 16-inch center display, a new light-gray interior option and vehicle-to-load (V2L) power capability. The changes are not currently listed for Model 3 vehicles sold in the United States or Europe.
Larger, higher-resolution display
The Model 3’s central touchscreen grows from 15.4 inches to 16 inches in China. Tesla also says the replacement display provides higher resolution and a faster refresh rate, features that could benefit activities such as watching movies or playing games in the vehicle.
The larger screen is already used in Model Y vehicles sold in China, the U.S. and Europe. However, Tesla’s regional websites continue to list the Model 3 with a 15.4-inch display in the U.S. and Europe. The Chinese-market screen could be introduced elsewhere later this year, although that broader rollout has not been confirmed.
New interior color
Chinese buyers can also select a light-gray premium interior instead of the standard black cabin. Both interior choices use a black headliner. The color combination has previously appeared in the Model Y, following a pattern in which some features reach the SUV before being added to the Model 3.
Model 3 gains vehicle-to-load capability
The China-market update also brings V2L capability to the Model 3. Tesla’s promotional material says all Model 3 and Model Y variants can supply up to 2.2 kilowatts of AC power, allowing the vehicles to run equipment such as a portable rice cooker, kettle and another cooking appliance simultaneously.
Most vehicles require a separately sold Tesla AC external power adapter to use the feature. The Model Y L is the exception, as it can power camping accessories without an additional adapter.
Purchase incentives in China
Tesla is also offering financial incentives to Chinese customers. Orders for a Model 3 placed by the end of October qualify for a 5,000-yuan reduction from the purchase total. Additional incentives include five years of zero-percent financing, along with credits for paint upgrades and charging costs.
