BMW has introduced the Concept 7 Protection, an armored sedan aimed at occupants who need protection from handgun fire without the heavier visual presence and capability of the brand’s more extensively armored models.
Unlike the 7 Series Protection and X5 Protection VR6, which are designed to withstand more serious threats including grenade blasts, the Concept 7 Protection is intended for a narrower security requirement. Its understated exterior closely resembles a standard 7 Series, making the concept suitable for private and corporate customers seeking a less conspicuous vehicle.
Protection against handgun ammunition
The sedan has been developed to the BayB protection standard, with a focus on ammunition such as .44 Magnum and 9 mm handgun rounds. The source does not position it as a defense against the higher-powered threats or semi-automatic weapons covered by the more heavily armored 7 Series Protection.
BMW has fitted the concept with bullet-resistant glass and doors constructed from ballistic steel and fiber-reinforced composites. The same protective materials are installed beneath the panoramic glass sunroof. Although the roof panel appears conventional from outside, its interior sunblind remains permanently closed. A protected bulkhead is also part of the vehicle’s security equipment.
The show car includes an intercom and an attack alarm system. At the same time, its security upgrades are paired with the luxury appointments expected of the 7 Series, including BMW Individual Smoke White Merino leather, an M Anthracite Alcantara headliner and additional Alcantara trim.
Based on the M760e xDrive
The Concept 7 Protection is based on the M760e xDrive plug-in hybrid powertrain. Its turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six and electric motor produce a combined 603 horsepower and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque.
BMW says the concept is intended to offer a more discreet alternative while retaining the handling characteristics of a regular 7 Series. Its equipment also includes electronically operated sunblinds and a digital rear-view mirror.
A fold-down rear console with an integrated table and cool box is being previewed on the concept. That feature is set to join the broader 7 Series range in the second half of 2027.
BMW describes the Concept 7 Protection as an indication of how its Protection portfolio could expand to serve additional user profiles. The source does not confirm a production decision or timing for the armored sedan itself.
