Alpine has previewed the PS1, a new concept scheduled to debut at the Paris Motor Show on October 12. The vehicle is expected to introduce the brand’s “special projects” product pillar and could provide an early look at a future production model.

A new Alpine product pillar

PS1 stands for Project Special 1. Alpine’s future lineup strategy is described as having three pillars: “Extraordinary Everyday,” represented by models such as the A290 hot hatchback and A390 sport fastback; “Icons,” led by the A110; and “special projects,” which the PS1 is intended to represent first.

The teaser does not identify the concept’s body style. However, it shows part of the car’s wide fenders and camera-based exterior mirrors, details that suggest a low and aerodynamic design.

Recessed headlights with French-flag lighting

The main focus of the preview is the PS1’s headlight treatment. When switched off, the lamps sit beneath covers that blend into the flat hood. Those panels recess into the bodywork to expose slim LED lighting elements displaying the colors of the French flag.

The arrangement recalls modernized pop-down lighting used on Eccentrica’s Lamborghini Diablo, while avoiding the pedestrian-safety concerns associated with traditional pop-up headlights. The rectangular clusters and surrounding body surfacing also echo the Alpine A310, which was produced from 1971 to 1984.

Possible link to Alpine’s electric grand tourer

Alpine is working on a new-generation grand tourer with a 2+2 configuration and a fully electric powertrain. That connection has led to the possibility that the PS1 could preview a zero-emission sports car positioned as a rival to the Porsche 911. The concept could also share the Alpine Performance Platform with the next A110, although Alpine has not confirmed those details.

Alpine said the teaser would be the only preview before the PS1’s reveal during the Paris Motor Show press day. The concept will appear alongside the A110 Sculpture, while the A290 and A390 will be displayed with new colors, trims and finishes created through the Atelier Alpine personalization program.
