Alpine has previewed the PS1, a new concept car that will debut at the Paris Motor Show alongside a sculpture of the next-generation A110. Its unusual lighting system features headlights that disappear beneath covers integrated into the hood, offering a modern interpretation of the classic pop-up headlight.

A new Alpine special project

PS1 stands for Project Special 1 and represents the first model associated with Alpine’s future “special projects” pillar. The concept is expected to sit above the brand’s “Extraordinary Everyday” models, which include the A290 hot hatchback and A390 sport fastback, as well as the A110 within the “Icons” pillar.

Alpine has not revealed the PS1’s complete design or confirmed whether it directly previews a production vehicle. However, the concept’s positioning and styling suggest it could provide an early look at a future low-volume model.

Headlights hidden beneath the hood

The teaser image focuses on the PS1’s front lighting. When switched off, the headlamps sit beneath covers that remain flush with the flat hood. Those panels recess into the bodywork to expose narrow LED elements featuring colors inspired by the French flag.

The mechanism recalls the appearance of traditional pop-up headlights while using a different approach. Alpine’s design places the lights below the hood surface rather than raising them above the body. The source material describes this type of arrangement as compatible with production-vehicle safety requirements, unlike conventional pop-up headlights, which can present a pedestrian-safety concern during a collision.

Possible connection to a future electric grand tourer

The dark teaser provides only a partial view of the concept. Visible details include wide fenders and cameras in place of conventional exterior mirrors, both of which point to a low, aerodynamic design.

The rectangular headlight clusters and surrounding bodywork also recall the Alpine A310, produced from 1971 to 1984. Alpine is working on a new-generation grand tourer with a 2+2 configuration and a fully electric powertrain, raising the possibility that the PS1 could preview that model.

That future vehicle has been described as a potential zero-emission rival to the Porsche 911 and could share the Alpine Performance Platform with the next A110. The relationship between the PS1 and that project has not been confirmed.

Paris debut

Alpine says the teaser is the only preview planned before the concept’s full reveal on the press day of the Paris Motor Show, scheduled for October 12. The PS1 will be displayed with the new A110 Sculpture.

The show stand will also feature several A290 and A390 examples finished with new colors, trims and finishes from Alpine’s Atelier Alpine personalization program.
