Gunther Werks has teamed up with former Formula 1 racer and motorsport commentator Martin Brundle to create the Brundle Edition Turbo, a limited-run 993-based sports car with 860 horsepower. Production will be restricted to five examples, while pricing has not yet been disclosed.

The car is based on Gunther Werks’ existing Turbo platform and uses a twin-turbocharged, air-cooled 4.0-liter flat-six. The engine produces 610 pound-feet of torque and sends its power to the rear wheels through a Getrag six-speed manual transmission.

Gunther Werks equipped the flat-six with Mahle pistons, forged connecting rods, individual throttle bodies, a billet crankshaft and stainless steel headers. A Motec ECU manages the powertrain.

The Brundle Edition Turbo also receives a bespoke chassis setup, including coilover suspension, custom front and rear anti-roll bars, double-wishbone suspension, a front strut brace and a hydraulic nose lift.

Braking hardware includes six-piston Brembo calipers and 14-inch discs at the front, along with four-piston Brembo calipers and 13.6-inch discs at the rear. Buyers can also specify lightweight carbon-ceramic discs.

Brundle-inspired exterior and cabin

Charlie Brundle, Martin Brundle’s daughter and an automotive designer, led the design. The car’s blue paint was inspired by Martin Brundle’s racing helmet, while white accents appear on the front and rear fenders, doors and rear-wing endplates.

The rear wing features an adjustable angle of attack for track use. Most of the exterior panels are made from carbon fiber, helping keep the car’s weight to 2,700 pounds.

Standard wheels are 18-inch forged three-piece aluminum units. An optional set of 18-inch forged two-piece wheels made from magnesium and carbon fiber was created by the same team behind the GXR-Evo 911. Their design draws inspiration from Brundle’s former Brabham Formula 1 car.

Inside, the car features lightweight carbon-fiber bucket seats with black and red trim, MB logos on the headrests and red door trim. The dashboard carries Brundle’s quote: “The most important bit of the car is the nut holding the steering wheel.” Each example also includes a Bell HP77 helmet finished to match the car in blue, white, red and carbon fiber.

Martin Brundle described the project as a personal collaboration combining experience from driving, motorsport and automotive design. He also highlighted the contrast between the vehicle’s extreme performance and its claimed level of civility and usability.
