Peugeot has revealed the E-T16 Concept, an electric performance hatch inspired by the 205 T16 that competed in the Group B era. The three-motor concept produces 815 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 2.5 seconds, while also previewing styling and technology intended for future production models.

The concept marks 40 years since the Peugeot 205 T16 won consecutive World Rally Championships in 1985 and 1986. Peugeot Sport describes the E-T16 as the beginning of a new “Hyperhatch” category, combining the visual drama of the rally car with an all-electric powertrain.

Three-motor electric powertrain

One electric motor drives the front wheels, while two power the rear axle. Combined output is rated at 815 hp (608 kW), making the E-T16 the most powerful Peugeot built, according to the supplied information. Peugeot says the concept can reach 186 mph in 16 seconds.

The drivetrain includes torque vectoring across both axles, three selectable driving modes and a fourth setting that can be customized. Braking hardware includes 15-inch discs at all four corners, while Michelin tires measure 275 mm at the front and 315 mm at the rear. A vertically mounted hydraulic handbrake adds another rally-inspired detail.

The battery uses a cooling system designed to remove heat through the sides of its cells rather than from their bases. Peugeot says this allows the E-T16 to complete three consecutive laps of the Nürburgring Nordschleife without reducing power output.

205 T16-inspired design

The E-T16’s bodywork carries several clear references to the original rally car, including widened fenders, a large rear wing and aggressively shaped surfaces. Its Winchester Matte Grey finish, silver wheels and red illuminated body stripe also reference the 205 T16.

The rear section lifts in a manner similar to the rally car, although the concept houses an electric powertrain rather than a gasoline engine. Other aerodynamic and cooling elements include a rear diffuser with adjustable blades, large front intakes and a floating C-pillar intended to guide airflow toward the rear.

Production technology previewed

Peugeot says the concept previews the next-generation E-208 in a less extreme form. The future hatchback is shown with a horizontal interpretation of the brand’s three-claw lighting signature, while the cabin features a curved 21-inch panoramic display and Peugeot’s Hypersquare steering wheel.

The steering system is connected to the front wheels through steer-by-wire technology. The production E-208 is expected to use both the Hypersquare wheel and steer-by-wire system. The concept itself also features carbon-fiber bucket seats, leather upholstery and red interior trim, but the source does not confirm whether those elements will appear in the production car.
