The FIA World Rally Championship will return to the United States in 2027, ending a 39-year absence from American roads. Rally US is scheduled for August 26–29 and will center on Knoxville, Tennessee, with competitive stages extending into Kentucky.
The event is included in the FIA’s approved 2027 calendar, which contains 15 rounds across five continents. Rally US will serve as the championship’s 11th event of the season, bringing WRC competition back to the country for the first time since Washington state’s Olympus Rally hosted a round in 1988.
Gravel stages across Tennessee and Kentucky
Organizers have spent several years developing the American event. A candidate rally held in June was used to demonstrate that the proposed roads and supporting infrastructure could meet WRC standards.
The official event description outlines a route combining fast, flowing gravel roads with tighter and more technical sections. However, the complete itinerary has not yet been released. Spectator locations and ticket information also remain unavailable.
Rally US President and CEO Matt Crews described the return as a significant moment for American motorsport and credited the country’s rally competitors, volunteers, organizers and fans with sustaining the sport during the WRC’s absence.
Rally US is expected to provide more information on October 27, including host locations, ticketing plans, fan activities and event partnerships.
Additional changes for the 2027 WRC season
The United States is one of several notable changes on the 2027 calendar. Scotland will return for the first time since 2019, while Italy’s round will move to Rome.
The championship will also introduce new technical regulations intended to reduce costs and improve accessibility for manufacturers and independent constructors. As a result, the 2027 season will feature new destinations and new cars alongside the WRC’s long-awaited return to American gravel.
