BMW M GmbH has produced its one-millionth vehicle, marking the milestone with an M3 finished in BMW Individual Fire Orange III at the company’s Munich plant.
The milestone car was handed over to Peter Weber, head of BMW Group Plant Munich, by BMW M CEO Franciscus van Meel. The executive described BMW M’s combination of road-car usability, racetrack capability, and everyday practicality as values that continue to resonate with customers decades after the first M3 entered the market.
The final M3 generation with combustion power
BMW has not disclosed extensive details about the milestone vehicle, although it appears to be an M3 Competition. The current model uses a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine producing either 503 horsepower (375 kW/510 PS) or 523 hp (390 kW/530 PS), depending on configuration.
With all-wheel drive, the sedan can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and has a limited top speed of 155 mph. Its production run is approaching a transition point, as BMW’s eighth-generation 3-Series has already been introduced.
BMW has said the Munich plant will build only fully electric vehicles from 2027. The facility is receiving an investment of approximately €650 million ($732 million), and i3 production began there in August. The plant is also expected to build the future M3 EV.
Camouflaged M3 EV prototype revealed
BMW has released new images of a camouflaged M3 EV prototype, offering a closer look at the road-going design after previewing a related concept in June. While the prototype retains some of the concept’s visual cues, its styling is less extreme.
The car features a more restrained front bumper, a smaller splitter, conventional exterior mirrors, and flush-mounted door handles. At the rear, BMW has adopted a more traditional treatment rather than the concept’s aggressive, track-focused appearance. A ventilated hood and a small rear spoiler are also visible.
Several details from the concept remain, including yellow graphics around the headlights and squared-off lower lighting elements. BMW has not yet released the M3 EV’s technical specifications.
The electric sedan is expected to use a four-motor powertrain, but reported output estimates vary significantly. Figures cited so far range from 691 hp (515 kW/700 PS) to 986 hp (735 kW/1,000 PS). The expected Mercedes-AMG C-Class Electric is reportedly targeting approximately 789 hp (588 kW/800 PS) from three motors, leaving the final output of BMW’s electric M3 uncertain.
