Mazda’s U.S. sales increased 31.9% year over year in September, reaching 34,519 vehicles. The gain included higher demand for every model in the brand’s local lineup, although Mazda’s sales for the first nine months of the year remain below last year’s total.

MX-5 sales continue to grow

The MX-5 posted one of the month’s notable increases. Mazda delivered 689 examples in September, compared with 524 during the same month last year, representing a 31.5% improvement.

Through September, MX-5 sales have risen 4.1% to 7,589 vehicles. The total includes 3,909 standard convertible models and 3,689 RF versions.

CX-5 leads Mazda’s September volume

Mazda’s highest-volume model in September was the new-generation CX-5, with 11,345 units sold. That result was 37.8% higher than in September last year. However, CX-5 sales remain down 9.5% year to date, at 95,762 vehicles, as sales transition from the previous model to the new generation.

The CX-50 recorded 9,147 sales during the month, a 3.1% increase. Its performance over the first nine months has been stronger, with year-to-date sales up 19.7% to 95,351 units.

September sales of the CX-70 reached 1,296 vehicles, up 96.7% from the same month last year. The CX-90 also gained ground, with 4,632 units sold for a 49% increase. Despite those monthly gains, year-to-date sales for the CX-70 and CX-90 are down 21% and 21.7%, respectively.

Other Mazda models also posted September increases. Mazda3 sales climbed 146.9% to 3,704 units, while CX-30 sales rose 13.3% to 3,706.
