PRS Guitars and Land Rover’s Defender brand have introduced the Silver Sky Defender Color Collection, a range of electric guitars developed with artist John Mayer. The instruments use colors associated with both classic and modern Defender models, allowing owners to coordinate their guitars with their SUVs.
The collection is divided into two versions. The U.S.-built PRS Silver Sky Defender Limited Edition will be produced in Maryland and priced at $3,200. Production is limited to 500 guitars in each color, for a total of 2,000 instruments.
Classic Defender colors
The flagship model is offered in Arles Blue, Willow Green, Portofino Red, and Sandglow Yellow. Each guitar combines its primary paint color with white knobs and other matching details.
Every guitar comes with a Defender-branded hard case. Its engraved neckplate includes the Defender logo, Silver Sky and John Mayer lettering, the name of the selected color, and the instrument’s serial number.
Mayer owns an Arles Blue Defender 90 with a white roof, making that finish a particularly direct connection between the musician and the collection.
More affordable SE version
PRS is also offering the SE Silver Sky Defender Limited Edition at $999. These guitars are built in Indonesia and do not have a stated production limit, although orders are scheduled to close in mid-2027.
The SE range uses colors drawn from the current Defender palette: Petra Copper, Sedona Red, Carpathian Grey, and Woolstone Green. Unlike the flagship models, the SE guitars feature black knobs and trim details, reflecting the black exterior accents available on the SUV.
Instead of the more expensive version’s hard case, SE buyers receive a Defender-branded gig bag.
Preorders and charity guitars
Both versions are available for preorder after being previewed at the Destination Defender event in California earlier this month. PRS is also producing a limited number of guitars in British Racing Green, but those instruments will not be part of the regular retail offering.
The British Racing Green guitars are intended for fundraising supporting the Defender Service Awards and Mayer’s Heart and Armor Foundation, which supports veterans.
