BMW has updated the X3 M50 xDrive for 2027 with a more powerful mild-hybrid engine, quicker acceleration, and an optional Black Package. The changes further distinguish the range-topping version of the current-generation X3, which has not been offered with a full X3 M variant.
More power from the inline-six
The X3 M50 xDrive continues to use a turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six with mild-hybrid assistance. Output increases by 44 horsepower to 437 hp (326 kW/443 PS), matching the figure offered by the new M350 sedan.
With the additional power, the SUV now accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 4.4 seconds. That is 0.2 seconds quicker than the outgoing model and places it 0.3 seconds behind the discontinued X3 M Competition in the same sprint.
The updated powertrain also meets Euro 7 emissions regulations, a change that supports the model’s continued availability in the European market.
Optional Black Package adds dark exterior and interior details
Available exclusively for the X3 M50 xDrive, the optional Black Package keeps the standard M Sport bumpers and quad exhaust outlets while adding black 22-inch alloy wheels and high-gloss black brake calipers. The exterior badges also receive black finishes with contrasting silver outlines.
Inside, the package uses black Alcantara from BMW Individual across the dashboard, door panels, sections of the seats, and the center armrest. The seats combine Veganza upholstery with blue stitching and piping, while the headrests feature embossed M logos.
Additional package-specific details include black floor mats with blue piping, a leather patch on the M steering wheel, and CraftedClarity controls with a crystal-like appearance. Buyers seeking more pronounced aerodynamic changes can also select the M Performance parts introduced for the X3 in 2024.
Updates across the X3 lineup
BMW has also made smaller changes throughout the X3 range. The cabin now includes PVC Softskin trim ahead of the infotainment display, revised stitching on the instrument panel, a redesigned glovebox release, and expanded ambient lighting.
The M Sport and M Performance versions receive Dark Silver door sills with black M logos. Protective stainless-steel trim is added to the boot sill on the X3 30e xDrive and X3 M50 xDrive.
At the entry level, the four-cylinder engine in the X3 20 xDrive has also been updated to meet Euro 7 emissions requirements.
