Saleen is developing a new widebody Ford Mustang upgrade kit that revives the company’s SR nameplate, previously used during the 1990s and early 2000s. The project, called the Saleen SR Widebody, was previewed in an Instagram teaser and is expected to be produced in very limited numbers.

The teaser depicts a heavily modified version of the S650-generation Mustang. Because the image is a rendering, the car’s roofline appears compressed, giving the Mustang different proportions than the production model.

Mustang receives widebody styling

Details of the front-end treatment remain difficult to identify, but the rendering appears to show a redesigned hood with prominent vents. The car also features flared wheel arches, along with what appears to be a revised front bumper and grille.

The most prominent visible change is at the back. A large rear wing dominates the design and appears substantially larger than the spoiler fitted to the Mustang Dark Horse S/C. Saleen has not disclosed the full specification of the package.

Mechanical changes have not been detailed either. However, the source material indicates that the exterior work could be accompanied by broader performance modifications, potentially including changes to the Mustang’s V8. Those details remain unconfirmed.

Saleen continues fundraising

The SR Widebody preview arrives as Saleen seeks additional funding. In late June, the company launched a campaign through Invown that allowed enthusiasts to purchase a small ownership stake. That effort was suspended in mid-July after raising $1,500.

Saleen subsequently began a separate fundraising campaign on Wefunder. At the time of the report, it had raised $119,501 from 82 investors.

As part of the Wefunder effort, Saleen has projected that its revenue could increase from an estimated $12.3 million in 2027 to $36.8 million in 2028. The company’s projections then rise to $102.5 million in 2029, $158 million in 2030, and $226.8 million in 2031.

Saleen’s recent history has included significant difficulties, including a failed joint venture with a Chinese company. That dispute apparently involved the theft of 40 years of intellectual property from company founder Steve Saleen. The business has since refocused on Mustang modification.

The company also says development of its long-promised road-going S1 continues. In addition, Saleen says it is working on a next-generation supercar known as the S11. No launch timing or additional specifications for those projects were provided.
