Rockstar’s newly announced The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection will cost $399.99, but buyers will not receive a copy of Grand Theft Auto VI with the merchandise bundle. The game must be purchased separately, adding either $79.99 for the standard edition or $99.00 for the Ultimate edition.
The collection arrives as anticipation builds for GTA VI, which is expected to launch in November after a series of delays, leaks, and growing attention across the gaming industry. The upcoming title is set to bring back the franchise’s emphasis on car chases while expanding vehicle customization and racing events alongside its crime-focused gameplay.
What the Vice City Collection includes
The $399.99 package is centered on Vice City-themed memorabilia rather than game content. Its items include Oakley sunglasses, stickers, pins, a map of Leonida, a cap, and a bobblehead depicting a Vice City mascot.
The bundle also contains a shot glass, crossbody bag, keychain, swizzle spoon, and magnetic mirror. The fictional county of Leonida serves as the setting for GTA VI, making its map one of the more directly game-related pieces in the collection.
Because the game is excluded, purchasers who want to play GTA VI will need to buy it separately. That arrangement has drawn attention because the collection is priced as a premium merchandise package while omitting the central product it is associated with.
GTA VI’s digital distribution plans
The collection’s pricing comes after the announcement that GTA VI would be the first high-profile AAA game to be released digitally only, with no physical disc edition. Copies sold through retailers are expected to contain a download code in a box instead of a disc, while digital versions will be offered through the PlayStation and Xbox storefronts.
That distribution decision received backlash from gamers. Rockstar CEO Strauss Zelnick defended the move by saying that discs “don’t really make sense for the consumer.”
A similar Rockstar merchandise release
Rockstar has previously sold a collector’s package without including the associated game. The Collector’s Box for Red Dead Redemption 2, released in 2018, also contained merchandise but no copy of the title.
That earlier package cost $99, making it less than one-quarter the price of the GTA VI collection. Red Dead Redemption 2 Collector’s Boxes now sell for more than $700 on eBay, although that resale value does not establish what the new Vice City package may eventually be worth.
