A 45-year-old St. Louis man has been sentenced to 51 months in federal prison after using stolen personal information and counterfeit identification documents to buy five vehicles worth roughly $333,000.

Michael Calvin obtained victims’ personal details from the dark web and used an online Missouri driver’s license template to create fraudulent licenses and identification cards. Investigators from the U.S. Secret Service and police departments in Missouri, Ohio, and other locations linked him to vehicle purchases made between November 2023 and August 2024.

Five vehicle purchases

The first transaction took place in Iowa on November 1, 2023, when Calvin bought a Chevrolet Camaro for $45,122. On February 24, 2024, he purchased a Jeep Cherokee in Wisconsin for $43,967.

His most expensive purchase came on April 29, when he paid $90,785 for a Dodge Charger Hellcat in Tennessee. Calvin later bought a Chevrolet Corvette—described in the source as presumably a Stingray—for $61,175 in Oklahoma on July 8.
