Honda says its more aggressive Civic Type R HRC Concept is now in development for the U.S. market. The camouflaged hot hatch will headline the automaker’s SEMA 2026 display, although Honda has not provided a production-launch timeline.

The HRC concept follows the modest updates made to the Civic Type R for the 2027 model year. It originally debuted at the Tokyo Auto Salon alongside a modified Prelude Coupe developed with input from Honda Racing Corporation.

More aggressive Type R hardware

Honda has not released a full list of changes separating the HRC version from the standard Civic Type R. However, the latest images show a revised front bumper, aerodynamic winglets positioned above the front wheel arches, and a substantially larger rear spoiler.

Those visible changes suggest a focus on increasing aerodynamic downforce. The source also expects the car could receive upgraded springs and dampers along with larger brakes, though Honda has not confirmed those components.

Another unanswered question is whether HRC will increase output from the turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine. In U.S. specification, the current Civic Type R produces 315 horsepower, sending power to the front wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.

Honda has not stated whether the HRC concept’s powertrain will receive modifications, and it has not announced when a U.S. production version might arrive.

Honda’s SEMA 2026 display

The Civic Type R HRC Concept will be joined at the Las Vegas Convention Center by several other Honda and Acura projects during SEMA, scheduled for November 3–6, 2026.

Honda’s display will include a Passport Baja Spec Trophy Truck with a twin-turbocharged 2.4-liter V6 using hybrid technology and producing more than 1,300 horsepower. Three modified Passport TrailSport vehicles will serve as chase vehicles for the truck.

The Hasport Prelude Club Racer will also appear. The project replaces the production Prelude’s hybrid setup with the Civic Type R’s engine and six-speed manual transmission, creating a track-focused interpretation of Honda’s modern coupe.

Other vehicles scheduled for display include Felix Rosenqvist’s 2026 Indy 500-winning Honda IndyCar, the Honda-powered 2026 Aston Martin Aramco Racing AMR26 Formula 1 car, and a 35-horsepower Honda N600 microcar that competed in the 1970 Baja 1000.

HRC performance parts

HRC U.S. will also launch an official performance-parts line at the show. The initial range includes sports exhaust systems, lightweight forged wheels, and a short-throw shifter for vehicles including the Civic Type R, Passport TrailSport, and Integra Type S.

Honda and Acura are expected to offer those upgrades through dealerships and online beginning in March 2027.
