A one-off shooting brake based on a Ferrari 599 GTB is set to go to auction in October, with an estimated value of €450,000 to €650,000. Known as the Daytona Shooting Brake Hommage, the car was designed by Dutch coachbuilder Niels van Roij.

Although the finished vehicle looks like a ground-up bespoke project, it began life as a Ferrari 599 GTB. The transformation replaced nearly every exterior panel, leaving only the original doors. The new bodywork was shaped from hand-formed aluminum, and the car no longer carries Ferrari badges.

Inspired by a 1972 Ferrari Daytona Shooting Brake

Van Roij drew inspiration from a custom 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Shooting Brake built by Pennsylvania-based Chinetti-Garthwaite Motors. That earlier car reportedly cost about four times as much as a standard Daytona when new.

The modern interpretation required more than 15,000 hours of design and construction work. Its revised front end features a distinctive grille, slim headlights, and an orange accent that separates it from the original 599’s styling.

Extended roof and bespoke rear access

The most significant change is at the back. The original 599 rear window was removed, while the roofline was extended to create the elongated shooting brake profile. The upright rear window is fixed, following the layout of the 1972 inspiration car.

Access to the cargo area comes through two side panels that open upward in a butterfly-style motion. The arrangement gives the rear of the car a distinctive appearance while preserving the central visual feature of the design.

Modified interior and original V12

The cabin also received extensive revisions. Among the changes, the instrument cluster was moved to the center of the dashboard rather than positioned directly behind the steering wheel.

Despite the extensive body and interior work, the car retains the 599 GTB’s original 6.0-liter naturally aspirated V12. The engine produces 620 horsepower and 448 pound-feet of torque, or 608 Nm.

The projected auction value is approximately four times the stated going rate for a standard Ferrari 599 GTB, reflecting the extensive custom fabrication and one-off nature of the Daytona Shooting Brake Hommage.
