General Motors is recalling 29,347 Cadillac Optiq electric SUVs from the 2025 through 2027 model years because the power windows may fail to reverse when they encounter an obstruction during the final 0.5 inches (13 millimeters) of upward travel.
The issue occurs when owners use the express-up function on the vehicle’s key fob. Under those circumstances, the window’s anti-pinch protection may not detect a hazard near the top of its travel, potentially increasing the risk of injury. The condition also does not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 118.
Software error affects anti-pinch operation
Anti-pinch systems are designed to monitor the force required to move the glass. If resistance rises because something is blocking the window, the system should stop the motor and send the glass back down.
According to the recall notes, the problem resulted from an incorrectly configured upper travel range in the anti-pinch software. The notes identify supplier Kwangjin America as responsible for setting that range. GM has not reported any injuries involving the recalled vehicles.
Dealership and over-the-air updates
The remedy does not require replacement hardware or disassembly of the door. Dealers will update the Body Control Module software on affected Optiqs. Owners who have enrolled their vehicles in over-the-air updates may be able to receive the fix without visiting a service center.
The Optiq recall comes as Cadillac also prepares an infotainment software update for the Optiq, Lyriq, Vistiq and CT5-V. That update will enlarge the virtual buttons displayed on the vehicles’ screens, following customer feedback that the existing touch targets could be difficult to select, particularly while driving.
